Meredith SAYS

Previous Quote

There is no other day. Every day is like this. Every day is a crisis. I love you and I want to marry you today, but there is no time.

Next Quote
  • Lexie Grey
    to Meredith:

"I know he's not your dad. But you have his blood and I don't, so please, give me my dad."

  • Cristina Yang
    to Meredith:

"Can't you go to the chief and use your dead mommy connections?"

  • Miranda Bailey
    to Meredith:

"I had five interns. Four of you have been on this table. One of you has cancer, one of you died. You better not pull anything funny on me, Grey."

CHARACTER BIO

LIKES:
Derek Shepherd; scrubbing in; ice cream; tequila

DISLIKES:
Estranged wives; complicated relationships; sharing her house (sometimes)

NOTABLE RELATIONSHIPS:
Even though relationships were never Meredith's strong point, the young resident has recently made great strides in her love life. She finally married her one true love, Derek Shepherd—on a Post-it, but still a marriage nonetheless.

FAMILY:
Considered "royally inbred" by the other interns, Meredith is the daughter of renowned surgeon, Dr. Ellis Grey, who recently passed away. Meredith continues to work on a relationship with her long lost father, Thatcher Grey and her newfound half-sister, Dr. Lexie Grey.

OTHER:

Thanks to her last name, Meredith has a lot of high expectations and responsibility riding on her shoulders. Even though she technically didn’t get credit for the invention of “The Shepherd Method,” Meredith played a big part in the technique’s development.

ACTOR BIO

Aside from her starring role on Grey's Anatomy, we like to remember Ellen Pompeo as the only non-beer-chugging character on the wildly successful Old School—where she held her own on the big screen alongside comedy heavyweights McHottie Luke Wilson, McDashing Vince Vaughn and McWitty Will Ferrell.

Her ever-so-popular portrayal of Meredith Grey earned Pompeo a Golden Globe nomination in 2007 and countless—perhaps fanatical—fans. Along with her fellow Grey's Anatomy cast members, she also received the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Television Drama.

A Boston native, Pompeo made her major studio film debut in Brad Silberling's Moonlight Mile, alongside the McScrumptious Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon. She went on to star in the wildly successful Old School as wall as in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can, opposite the McSexy Leonardo DiCaprio.

Prior to Moonlight Mile, Pompeo had starred in several independent features, including In the Weeds and Coming Soon.
