THE MIDDLE - "The Cheerleader" - Facing financial disaster, Frankie tries to save her job by organizing a publicity stunt involving a car filled with jelly beans; Sue fails swim team tryouts, and then learns she needs glasses; and when Brick can't check books out of the library because Frankie can't pay a $200 library fine, he starts reading his mother's steamy romance novels, on "The Middle," WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 (8:30-9:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/MITCH HADDAD)CHARLIE MCDERMOTT, NEIL FLYNN

As we’ve come to learn, Mike Heck is brutally honest. He doesn’t sugarcoat things. Ever! So it’s usually up to Frankie to pick up the pieces whenever reality hits hard. She’s like the family cheerleader.

As Frankie sorts through the daily mail, it suddenly dawns on her that it’s 2009. It seems the Heck family purchased a wide variety of household items that didn’t require payment until 2009. And like we said, it’s 2009! Frankie is optimistic though. She feels they’ll be fine as long as the dryer holds out and she finally sells a car. Too bad the dryer dies and Frankie is currently “minus one” in the car sales department.

The family must cut corners, which means a trip to the Frugal Hoosier, Indiana’s best “expired food” store. When it comes to the meat sold at this place, everything must go—today! But the grocery shopping is cut short when Bob calls to tell Frankie she has to come into work early for an emergency meeting.

THE MIDDLE -

Cutting Back?

When the bills come due, the Hecks have to cut back. Has your family ever been in the same position, and what are some of the more creative ways that you saved money?

I am fortunate enough that my family has never had to go to such extremes to save money but the whole trip to the grocery store was funny and when that dryer fell onto the lawn - priceless

AH this show is awesome. I love it so much. I hope this show stays because it rocks. The actors are awesome and show itself is hilarious. Brick is the best and I wish he was my little brother.

YES! I KNOW that you taped this show in my house with my family. I can't believe it. Our four kids are cracking up! The house even looks like ours. Sadly her carpet looks like mine...ten years plus and died years ago... Our 15 year old football player son sophomore and just got his driver's learning permit... Our 14 year old daughter with the same hair as the one on the show just got her braces... plays baritone for the band, runs cross country AND JUST GOT ASKED ON HER FIRST DATE and that's to homecoming this weekend I'm still waiting for the 9 year old to make her first take to school brown baggin' it lunch! just add one more kid, Patricia Heaton and you have our Joshua! NOW we also have problems getting to survive, oops, I mean have a nice anniversary...ours is November 28,...17 years this year! We've gone on ONE trip/anniversary since the first kid. AND YES, I WOULD BE THRILLED TO HAVE A NEW CARPET REMNANT! P.S. I WORK TOO...MY HUBBY BROKE DOWN AND GOT ME A CRICKET PHONE BECAUSE THE KIDS USED UP ALL MY TRACPHONES MINUTES!!!

No paper towels or plates.. and when the next time they want or try to go to French Lick, please don't use a lame name for a motel... There are two newly refurbished historical hotels in French Lick ...

I really enjoyed this show because most moms are the cheerleader and the family can't handle it when she is not cheering. good show

I don't understand what you were looking for in The Middle. It's a funny show about how most American family's probably are. My husband and I found it quite hilarious due to the fact we grew up struggling but finding ways to make things work. Get off your high horse and join the real world.

Easily the BEST sitcom on TV this year, sums up the economy and the struggles of a family, in a way that allows us to see the brighter side, being one effected alot this past year I have to say I laughed until I had tears running down my face. I haven't laughed that much in a very long time- so for that I thank you!!
